ART

The LAST team consists of researchers, artists and designers, who share the common goal of raising awareness on complex issues through artivism and advocacy activities.

Each project begins with rigorous humanistic research to define the conceptual framework. This research is then translated into multimedia artistic languages, crafting an engaging and accessible narrative.

The creative process culminates in public awareness events held in museums, human rights centers, or institutional and public spaces.

These events not only serve as platforms for artistic expression but also foster dialogue and reflection on critical issues shaping contemporary society.

Our projects

Biometrics of absence

“Biometrics of Absence” is a multidisciplinary project that integrates visual art with participatory writing and anthropological research. In the visual component, the fingerprint becomes a trace on paper, reflecting the concept of identity according to Sam, a person from Syria who traveled along the Balkan route to reach the Netherlands. The text emerges from a participatory writing process, while the anthropological research delves into the profound meaning of identity. The project highlights how migrants are often reduced to mere codes to be deciphered according to social expectations through the biometrization system, rather than being recognized for their uniqueness.

Inhabitable

"Inhabitable" is a project based on socio-political research with a visual component, aiming to shed light on the global situation of those who have been forced to flee and cannot find refuge in a safe country. Their identity is socially compromised and their sense of home is reduced to wearing clothes discarded by society and donated to humanitarian organizations.
The visual result consists of a 12 x 12 meter patchwork piece, made by sewing together 100 kg of clothes from workers and asylum seekers from the social tailoring Linea Adele in Milan. This large fabric will be exhibited as a home-like space where people can walk through and listen to an audio production that narrates the different conditions asylum seekers are forced to endure, thus experiencing a loss of identity.

The project was carried out in partnership with Realmonte ETS, the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart of Milan and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Vienna.

Sights Without Rights

"Sights Without Rights" is a virtual experience accessible via computer or Oculus Quest guiding visitors through the historiography, culture and reality of Palestinian and Syrian refugees in Lebanon. Using a participatory approach - through images, interviews, writings, videos and the voices of people in the camp -viewers can immerse themselves in the daily life of a refugee camp in Lebanon from a dual perspective: that of both the observer and the observed.

The project was realized in collaboration with Ulaia Artesud OVD, Beit Atfal Assomoud NGO, with the patronage of Ca Foscari University of Venice and Centro Servizi di Volontariato Lazio.
